Looking for a way to get a hold of either a shop manual or something with torque specs and step by step directions. This will be the first time I've done one of these engines. Any informations would be helpful. Namely, back in 2018, a class-action lawsuit was filed against the VW group by Audi and VW owners who have suffered damages due to the whole timing chain issue. The case ended up in a settlement around mid-August of 2019. To be eligible for monetary reimbursement, you had to submit a claim by January 25th, 2019. Timing belt removed from VW Golf just In time! There appears to be a lot of confusion with vehicle owners when the replacement of timing belts should take place. In the latest Audi and VW service book information (June 2012) now recommend 5 years in some cases, sooner on high mileage vehicles! The last gen Octavia VRS with the 1.8 TPI engine was notorious for its timing belt failures. A belt replacement post 60,000kms was highly recommended. The 1.8 TSI comes with a timing chain which is supposed to last the lifetime of the engine. Meaning to say there is no prescribed interval for its replacement.

Timing Chain Stretch : Affected VW and Audi Models – All 2.0t TSI engines. Timing chains are important to keep the top and bottom of the engine rotating together. There are three 5mm allen bolts holding the muffler on. Remove the lower timing cover. The bolts for the lower timing cover are T30 torx bolts. Pry the cover off with a flat head screwdriver. Remove the oil pump chain. Retract the tensioning guide and lock with T40011. Remove the T30 bolt holding the guide on.
